We take pride in ensuring that all of our members feel like they’re both safe and secure when training at our facilities. We have strict codes of conduct and community standards posted in our waiting area and a zero-tolerance policy regarding bigotry and sexual harassment. Any members violating those codes of conduct are banned from the academy.

The CTA curriculum was designed and is constantly evolving with Professor Caio Terra. The fundamental techniques are battle-tested in the highest levels of Jiu-Jitsu competition, which means from the ground up, you’re learning what the best in the world in the game is learning.

I have been training here for around a month and highly recommend it. The lead instructor is not only extremely knowledgeable, but also kind and genuine. Everyone who trains here has been equally welcoming and nice. They all want to help each other and it shows. I have felt really comfortable from day 1. Only regret is not joining sooner. Joel was an amazing instructor to my little brother, he was quite shy when he first joined this facility a couple years ago. But Joel made sure to make him feel comfortable and has always been kind and supportive. My brother has taken a break from here for a few months but even then Joel still supports him virtually and is always ready to welcome him back. This is an amazing facility for all kids and adults, and everyone interested should definitely check it out.
I'm usually so lazy and unmotivated that I drop things at the first chance I get but I've been going to this academy for around 2 years. That in itself should be a testament to how good it is. JAO's approach is both casual and welcoming yet structured and methodical. The students are all friendly and willing to help each other learn too. There's plenty of people who just like to show up and casually learn bjj but there are also people who are more competitive so you can really choose the kind of experience you want to have. Overall, I'd highly recommend dropping in for a class if you're interested.
I’ve been with Jao for the past 3 years of my Jiu Jitsu journey. He’s an incredibly knowledgable and technical instructor who puts his heart into teaching. The environment that he has cultivated over the years is super welcoming to everyone and anyone. Feel free to drop in and try a class!
People here are wonderful training partners! the curriculum is very technique-oriented, people are welcoming, and classes are fun and safe. If you are a regular family guy like myself who works a regular job and is just trying to stay fit amidst the busy work-life schedule, or is looking for some stress-relieving activity, try one of the classes here. The best bjj place in Brooklyn! It’s great for beginners, kids, and adults. The members, staff, and coach are all very welcoming. Great training spot for both those who want to compete and those just looking to get in shape!
If you’re looking to train in martial arts, this is definitely the place to be. Coach Jao is a fantastic teacher who explains everything in great detail while also making it simple and concise. There is also a strong sense of community with lots of positive vibes. Definitely recommend whether you’re a novice or a seasoned vet.
This is one of the best gyms I’ve ever trained at. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the wonderful atmosphere and friendly environment.
