Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a fighting and grappling art. While it contains many stand-up throws, take-downs, and self-defense techniques that can finish a fight, it is most famous for its extremely effective ground-fighting techniques.
This martial art was developed to allow the smaller person to defeat the larger person through the application of leverage and submission holds, such as joint locks and chokes.
SUBMISSION GRAPPLING
Submission Grappling is one of the main components of Mixed Martial Arts and encompasses the ground fighting aspects of the sport. Grappling is easily the largest of the MMA sports combined in consideration of participants.
It combines the powerful throws of Olympic Judo competitors, the stealth-like takedowns of Greco-Roman/Freestyle Wrestlers, the slick Leg Lock attacks of Russian Sambo specialists, and the Snake-like submission skills of a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter.
GI AND NO GI
While many people argue what’s better, gi or no gi, Professor Caio believes why not train both? Ultimately, it’s all Jiu-Jitsu, and training one will always benefit the other. At Caio Terra Brooklyn, we have an extensive no-gi library that’s always expanding, as well as detailed lesson plans to help elevate your no-gi game to the next level!

The Caio TErra Association (CTA) difference
When Caio decided to start an association to spread his style of Jiu-Jitsu, it was very important that he was easily accessible to all of the members, instructors, and gym owners. This was to develop a professional and training relationship, so the members could get to know him and, more importantly, he could get to know the members. With seminars and classes there is limited time where people can interact, for this reason Caio insisted we set up private groups for all CTA members that will allow him to personally get to know EVERYONE a little better.
In addition, it is equally important for all of the affiliates to know each other; we are a team, and we will always be a team. You often hear people talk about associations like family, I have never heard of a family that didn't know who their members were. This will never be the case with the CTA, there will never be a time where we get so big that we don't have time to get to know our members! Caio truly does care that each school succeeds and that each and every student progresses in their journey in life and Jiu-Jitsu. It's a major difference from any association, the Caio Terra difference!

Fast-paced, fun-filled classes. The key is the emphasis on advancement and growth based on each child’s individual pace. Classes become more challenging as each child demonstrates the readiness to accept more complex skills. Children will begin to grasp the concept of self-discipline as they achieve goals. When they tackle more difficult goals, their self-confidence grows and serves as a strong foundation in all aspects of life, including academics, sports, arts, and social life.
Your child will have fun while learning developmental skills, all within a safe, healthy, and exciting environment. Our program works unlike any other children’s activity simply because it has the perfect blend of fun and learning. Your child’s classes will be led by trained instructors. Each instructor is carefully selected and has experience working with children in sports. We begin with self-discipline, or what we like to call a non-quitting spirit.
Self-discipline itself is not enough; we also teach our kids the art of self-defense, an important life skill. Kids today face more bullies and negative peer pressure than ever before, so it is essential they have the skills necessary to distinguish between good and bad, right or wrong. This is why we teach a realistic, streetwise self-defense system that combines the most effective Brazilian jiu-jitsu and submission grappling techniques. Hence, kids learn to defend themselves in virtually any situation, whether they are standing up or end up on the ground. They also learn conflict resolution and when they should and shouldn’t use their newfound skills.

Studies have shown that kids who learn self-defense become more assertive and less aggressive. Kids who know how to defend themselves typically don’t have to since they carry themselves more confidently. We help kids develop a healthy mind and body so they have the energy and fitness to face life’s challenges and succeed.
Television, Soft drinks, Video Games, and Fast Food are just a few of the challenges kids face today. Combine these with a decrease in school physical education classes, and it’s easy to see why weight problems and obesity among kids have more than doubled in our country in the last twenty years.
If this sounds like serious stuff, don’t worry! Our Kid’s Classes are taught in a safe, fun, and exciting environment, where students are not compared to each other but rather progress at their own pace. The competition is from oneself to oneself.
