Why are in house payments not accepted?
We like to run the academy as efficiently as possible. Collecting payments in house is time-consuming, and not having payments in ON the due date causes delays in payment of our rent and utilities which leads to massive penalties for us. Auto billing ensures everything runs smoothly and we can focus on teaching quality classes.
Are there any hidden fees?
None whatsoever. Certain events have a fee attached (Seminars, evaluations, private lessons etc) and those prices are determined by the guest instructor. Seminars are NOT mandatory, although we encourage everyone to attend.
What is insurance, and why do I have to pay it?
Martial arts academies are required to carry insurance to operate. Insurance premiums are based on total
number of students training in a facility, which is why we cap our student count at 100. Most premiums come to $10-$15 per month per student and academies add that into the students’ monthly payments. We pay our insurance for the entire coming year in December, which helps us save money and time. The insurance covers students for any injuries that may be sustained during the course of training.
Do I have to buy extra gear?
If you attend sparring classes there is mandatory equipment you must purchase through the academy. Our insurance requires all contact equipment to be purchased through the academy, with no exceptions.
Do I have to pay for promotions?
No. Our Jiu Jitsu promotions are twice a year, and always involve a seminar. If you cannot attend the seminar you are promoted during class. TKD evaluations are done three times per year, and there is an evaluation fee however that does not guarantee a promotion. If requirements are not up to standards the student must be re-evaluated at a later time, free of charge. Lists of requirements are given to all eligible students in BJJ and TKD.
What’s the best way to contact the instructors/administration?
E-mail is always the best way. We send out weekly emails to parents and students for any important reminders and typically respond to emails within the hour. You can also text the academy at any time, and we have a WhatsApp group for emergency announcements.
I can only attend class once or twice a week, can I have a discount on membership fees?
No. We do offer class packs for certain special instances. Class packs are available in 15, 25, and 50 classes. 15 class packs are good for three months, 25 class packs are good for six months, and 50 class packs are good for a year. You will be notified when your class balance is low.
How are promotions decided?
For Jiu Jitsu the first requirement is mat time. There is a minimum number of classes required for each rank, and only when students reach that minimum they will be considered for promotion. These standards are universal for all Caio Terra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu students, along with the fundamentals curriculum created by Professor Terra. Knowledge of the entire CTA curriculum is required for promotions.
Is there a mandatory uniform?
No, but to be tested or promoted you must have CTA patches on your gi as per CTA guidelines. We recommend purchasing gis through the academy. CTA has an online store that offers great gi options all of which are top of the line.
Does Caio Terra teach here?
Professor Terra as well as the black belt staff all visit the academy on occasion but only teach seminars and clinics. The academy staff is regularly evaluated and tested by professor Terra himself, and every technique taught comes directly from professor Terra.
I have to take some time off, can I freeze my payments?
If you’re on a monthly billing membership, we don’t freeze payments unless you’re canceling your membership. If you inform us about your absence first we will gladly extend your membership to make up for any time lost. This applies to all non-class pack memberships. We will not credit any absences under one week.
